I Find God Beside the Sea

I find God beside the sea
In breaking waves far from Thee.
You the One who takes my soul
Who loves but won’t let go.

I uproot theology like weeds.
Howls of wind take its place.
The sky consumes the ancient creeds.
The sun becomes God’s face.

Slowly, slowly, so patiently
The sky gives up its blue.
A blanket of stars tucked gently
Over souls entombed in pews.

There is so much I cannot see,
Dark majesties unknown to me.
So I will search among the stars
For who You really are.
