The Endless Majesty
I find God beside the sea
at dusk, in breaking waves far from Thee:
You, the other God, who wearies my soul,
who requires but won't let go.
Him I leave among the concrete reeds,
the wind taking his place
as the sky gobbles up the choking clouds
that obscure the horizon.
Slowly, slowly
the sky surrends its blue
and pulls a star-pricked blanket over the shivering world.
I contemplate constellations and surrender to the Arist of All.
Yet even here there is so much I can't see.
In this endless majesty there are universes unknown to me.
So I will sprend the rest of my life searching the stars
until I find the hidden things that tell me who you are.
